Is it Thursday yet?

This week is going to be ROUGH.
Here is my schedule::
Mon- 7:30am-4:30pm= Regency Lighting
5:30pm-11:45pm= Starbucks
This repeats TUES & WED....
that's 15-16 hour work days...three days in a row.
Which is why I am looking forward to THURSDAY!
and Friday I get to do the long day all over again.
I realize people do this all the time and I probably shouldn't complain. But it doesn't mean I am going to look forward to it.
I tried to stock up on sleep this weekend..I went to bed at 9:30pm on Friday, 7:30pm on Sat night and 8:30pm last night. Apparently I've turned into an 85 year old woman...
However, on Saturday I did help some friends shoot a short film in Hollywood. Here is a picture..

If you look very closely through the trees in the distance there is something white on the hills..that's the Hollywood sign! I see this almost every day and so I tried to finally take a picture while driving...obviously I failed.

And here is a little sample of my drive every day. I drive through a valley and over mountains to get to work. I live over the hill- which means outside of the valley. When I first moved here, people kept saying things like "I don't want to drive that far, it's over the hill..." and I had no idea where they were talking about..I just nodded and pretended like I totally got it.
Here is another shot of the valley as I drove to Burbank for the open call on Friday. This is where Universal Studios, Warner Bros. and the Walt Disney studios are.

And so this week is going to include a lot of me eating/changing in the car as I go from one job to another..and then of course using my hour lunch break to sleep in my car! :) Wish me luck!

A Day in The Life

So I have started my new job and let me tell you.. it is CRAZY EXCITING.
Here is my desk::

And here I am sitting at my lovely desk::
I need a plant, or pictures or something..
I really do like my bosses and I actually stay pretty busy so the day goes by quickly.
Here is what I have done today so far::
6:00- wake up
6:45- leave the house
7:30- arrive at work
7:30-7:40- stare at my computer and wonder how I got up so early.
7:40- check voicemails, emails etc.
8:00-Present(11:30AM)- talk to a Honda dealership, call applicants for a truck driver position in San Francisco for a pre-screen interview.
SUPER thrilling right?!
I am auditioning on Friday for the show Mad Men and on Sat and Sun I am helping out with another film project through Mosaic..so I look forward to that.
This blog is fairly pointless, but just know that it is being posted from my corner(of the room) office in Van Nuys, CA. woooo!!

Another Week

Last Sunday, Catherine White invited me to go to the Hollywood Bowl for her Easter service. The weather was perfect and it was right in the middle of the hills in Hollywood. We went to her house for lunch and then that night, I went to my church for the service.
This year I think I appreciated Easter in a different way. I think it has something to do with the fact that I am surrounded by such a different crowd now that I am out of the Bible belt. God has taught me so much. I think I have learned to not take church for granted. It is always important, but I have realized what a necessity it is for encouragement etc. Obviosuly Easter is an important day to spend with other believers, but it just felt like such a special blessing this year.

On a different note, this is just a small taste of what I see every day on my commute home... Lovely, right? This is the 405 at about 5PM. Atleast it's a little more scenic than the Katy Freeway.

Brittany and I spent the day in Santa Monica today and it was so perfect. I heard it was raining in Houston, so I think that made it a little more enjoyable :)
I love that we live 20 minutes away from this beach.
This week I am going to audition for the show Mad Men after work, so I hope that goes well!
I hope you all are doing wonderfully!!

Photobooth and the Passover Seder

This is what happens when you have a free Thursday night!
We did however enjoy TWO new episodes of the Office, Parks and Recreation and 30 Rock!
What did you think of the new Amy Poehler show? I did laugh quite a few times....but I don't know yet.

Yesterday, I got to go to a Passover Seder dinner at my Jewish friend's house. It was very cool.
Clearly, this story is important to our faith as well and it was really cool to study this the week of our Easter. I would really recommend reading about the Passover Seder, I learned some new info. about the tradition. We read the story of Moses, sang hebrew songs (I really just listened at this point) and ate a traditional meal..I LOVED it! There is a toast at the end where they state how grateful they are to have Passover this year, and how they hope the next year they will finally be in Jerusalem. They hope to have their Messiah come and they look forward to when they will return to Israel.
This made me think of why we celebrate Easter and the sacrifice of Jesus. My friend said she was coming with me to the Easter service on Sunday and she has been asking me a lot of questions about why we believe what we believe. It's been great to just have conversations about what we believe. I am also really grateful I got to see how they celebrate the Passover and I want to go again next year!

I wish I was with my family this weekend but I am looking forward to the weekend! I hope you all have a very blessed time with whomever you may be celebrating with!

Venice is Awesome and Scary

This past weekend I had a free afternoon so I went to Venice....and I will probably never go alone again. It is a really cool, artsy beach just south of Santa Monica. It is very stereotypical California... I really liked it and I would love to go here with friends and hang out..
However, 2 people approached me within my first 20 minutes of being there and kindly offered to sell me some drugs..or atleast I think that's what they were offering.
I did get these lovely pictures of the beach with the mountains in the background.
Also I got these SUPER rad glasses for $5. What do you think??

Here are some updates on my really exciting life::
**I am completely addicted to the yogurt pretzels from Whole Foods.
**I like running on Friday nights because I can hear all the Jewish Sabbath services coming from all the apartments down my street.
**I am now a neat freak and borderline germaphobe.
**My new favorite flavor of oatmeal is banana nut and I highly recommend it.
** I have realized I am really introverted and large crowds of people overwhelm me.
**I rented the DVDs of 30 Rock and watched all 3 seasons in one week.
**One of the most exciting things about my new job is that it is walking distance from the set of The Office.
And that's it! I hope you all had a great weekend! :)

SURPRISE!

So this past weekend I made a surprise visit to Texas!
I was supposed to get there Thursday afternoon and I planned on going to Tallowood, surprising my dad and then heading to my house and surprising my mom...then on to my brother's house to surprise them. HOWEVER, I have learned I am THE MOST UNLUCKY traveler. I have had issues everytime I fly alone. EVERY single time.
My connecting flight was cancelled in Dallas on Thurs. because of bad weather in Houston. I was saved by my friend Maggie who just so happened to be leaving Dallas to drive to Houston. I caught a ride with her.. I eventually got home and although I had called my dad, I got to surprise my mom, Chris and Callie.

I got to eat at Escalantes and Pappasitos which was AMAZING. I miss good Mexican food. Carson spent the night at my parent's house on Friday so I got to spend time with him. I loved seeing my whole family...

These are the only pictures I have. My nephew at Jason's Deli admiring his new Mickey Mouse- with whom he is obsessed.
It was hard to leave..and even harder when I got to the airport on Monday only to find out my flight home was cancelled due to mechanical issues. REALLY AIRLINES?! Why do you hate me?? Thankfully, I didn't techinically have to work until Wednesday so I stayed until Tues. morning and caught an early flight. Now my family needs to come here to see where I live! :)
I did officially get the job as an Executive Assistant at the lighting company. I will do that as well as Starbucks for a while just to save as much money as I can. When I am able, I will probably drop the Starbucks job and move more and more into film stuff.. I hope!
I cannot be more grateful! I have TWO great jobs. In California. A lot of people are losing their jobs, which is terrible. I am so blessed right now and I could not be more excited to be here!
Thanks or your prayers! Have a great week!
**ALSO- I wanted to come back and add this link to a YouTube video. It's random but amazing.
This may just be my sense of humor but I laughed out loud for the majority of this. And I was alone laughing out loud..so yeah, I'm pretty awesome. Please enjoy...and let me know what you think!
**For some reason I thought of Valerie specifically because I'm pretty sure she'll like it :) So next time we talk I am going to mention it..be ready!
